Most people want a flat and tone stomach. However, not everyone has the time or desire to start a workout plan. Fortunately, there are ways to flatten your stomach without exercise. A large abdomen isn't necessarily the result of overeating or being overweight. With this said, before you can flatten your stomach, you'll need to pinpoint factors that contribute to a larger mid-section.
Instructions
- 1
Increase your fiber intake. Being constipated or having irregular bowel movements can result in a larger mid-section. To alleviate this problem, take a laxative or increase your fiber intake. Adults need approximately 20 to 35 grams of fiber a day, and you can receive this by eating a healthy serving of fruits and vegetables or taking fiber supplements.
2Lose water weight. Medications (such as birth control pills, anti-depressants and prescription steroids) or a high sodium diet can result in water retention. Taking a diuretic or drinking at least 10 glasses of water a day sheds excess fluids from the body and trims the abdomen.
3Eat less and cut calories. To lose weight and flatten your stomach without exercise, you have to reduce your calorie intake. Overeating causes the stomach to stretch. However, eating less shrinks the stomach. Attempt to eat 500 less calories a day. You can achieve this by eliminating unhealthy snacks, sodas and fast food from your diet.
4Identify foods that cause abdominal bloating. Certain foods and ingredients such as lactose, wheat, beans, starches and raw vegetables are difficult to digest. As a result, some people deal with frequent abdominal bloating, which can cause the stomach to enlarge. Keep a food journal and pinpoint your trouble foods. Eliminate these foods from your diet, or take a digestive enzyme supplement before consuming these foods.
