Low sodium symptoms come from low sodium levels in the blood or Hyponatremia. This condition is much less common than high sodium levels and resulting hypertension. The danger of low sodium symptoms is that low levels of sodium in the blood can affect most of the body's systems ability to function, including the brain. Check your condition against these symptoms of low sodium and see a physician for treatment options.
Instructions
- 1
Pay attention to mild low sodium symptoms.
These may include a general fatigue, muscle cramping, and increased urination. Each of these may be associated with other illnesses, but if you are at risk for low sodium symptoms this is something to note.
2Take your blood pressure regularly.
Many drug stores now have self serve blood pressure machines. Though these are not extremely accurate they can provide a general picture of your blood pressure which will drop considerably with low sodium symptoms.
3Take note of an inability to sweat.
If you become unable to sweat, even during intense physical effort you may have a very low sodium level. Since sodium is an electrolyte a temporary low sodium level can often be replenished by electrolyte replacing drinks.
4Immediately report more severe low sodium symptoms.
These can include migraines, becoming mentally confused or disoriented, seizures, or muscle twitching that is more severe than a minor tic. Since low sodium symptoms can also be signs of more serious illnesses, or drug induced imbalances be sure to consult with your physician immediately.
